I went to Pound by Todd English located in Robinsons Ermita to take my lunch because of their yummy and filling Amsterdam Burger.
It is priced at 280 pesos, but with 10% service charge like most restaurants in the Philippines, my bill totaled to 308 pesos.
From the menu, the recipe of Amsterdam Burger includes the following ingredients: House Ground Beef Patty, Fried Onion, Pastrami, Gruyere, Sauerkraut, Mustard Relish, and Todd English (T.E.) sauce
There were unfamiliar ingredients to me, so I googled the following:
Gruyere – a type of cheese that has lower acid compare to cheddar cheese. One reason I opt for the Amsterdam burger is to avoid cheddar cheese for my diet. I have read that cheese, as part of dairy, has given some health issues, in terms of skin, hormonal and digestion. So, I always look for alternative at least.
Pastrami – is a popularized preserved meat made famous by Jewish people.
Sauerkraut – is the most distinct ingredient of the Amsterdam Burger because of its sour flavor. It is a lactose-fermented cabbage. A fermented product, like kimchi and this Sauerkraut, were said to be rich in probiotics.
My favorite part of eating Amsterdam Burger or any burger is not by fork and knife, but by hand!
I wish there is an extra mustard relish and the Todd English sauce serve on the side, because it is my habit to dip a burger to a sauce with every bite.
One reason why I dip burger to a sauce with every bite, which could be ketchup or mayonnaise or any restaurant’s homemade dip is because there were some burgers that have more bread than patty which make it boring and unsavory. Some burger patty has already dried out before it was served. But when there is sauce on the side, it is just magic! Cooking mistake solved!
In the case of Amsterdam Burger, I am very happy about the taste and the size. At first though, I really thought it is small, compared to Zark’s Burger and 8 Cuts Burger Blend, but it is quite filling. It does not feel like I overate at all, which is essential to enjoying the meal in a healthy hearty way.
At dinner though, I had to complete my meal with greens and veggies which I skip during lunch. But I will order Pound’s salad on my next food trip!
